CULTIVATORS/Tillers

These may be divided into two groups - those with front mounted tines which drag the machine (and operator!) along - typified by the now defunct Merrytiller brand - and the heavier duty and more expensive machines with the tines mounted behind driven wheels.

SHREDDERS

The average garden generates a large amount of waste during the year. Traditionally this has either been burnt or put out for the bin man!

Much of this waste can be composted and returned to the land - composting un-shredded material is space consuming and slow-shredding is the ideal way to start the process and does not affect the ozone layer or reduce land fill capacity.

ELECTRIC SHREDDERS:  Ideal for the smaller garden. Originally nearly all electric shredders were of the Impact type. The shredding was done by a combination of hammers and blades, which made them very noisy to use and hard on the hands when feeding them.

Newer designs use slow speed; recoil-free spiral cutters or millers to shred the waste material and still allow normal conversation!

ATCO QUIET CHIPPER/SHREDDERS

PETROL POWERED SHREDDERS
These are the workhorses for large gardens and garden contractors. Quiet they are not but they have the capacity to deal with large quantities of waste fast.

COUNTAX high capacity chipper shredder. 75cm capacity. To fit the COUNTAX A, C, D & K series tractors. Driven from the tractor's Power Take Off. See ride-on mower and tractor section.

VACUUMS & Vac/Blowers

These range from simple hand-held electric units for domestic use to high-powered wheel mounted machines for large gardens, schools and commercial premises.

Some have a blowing facility for pushing leaves or litter into a corner before sucking it up. Most feature some form of pulverizing mechanism to reduce the volume going into the bag and cut down on the frequency of emptying.

Hand-held.

We stock a selection of Electric and Petrol powered units from MTD, Lawnflite, Echo and Ryobi.

Wheeled - push & self-propelled.

We stock units from MTD/Yard-man and Countax most of which can be fitted with an extension hose for getting into those awkward places.

Some of the MTD machines are combined chipper/shredder/vacuums and have an auxiliary intake chute for chipping branches etc.

The Countax Hurricane is designed for large gardens, sports stadia, industrial premises or anywhere else where productivity is the prime concern. Capable of handling Aluminium drinks cans!

MISCELLANEOUS LAWNCARE EQUIPMENT

SCARIFIERS - sometimes called Verticutters, Dethatchers or Lawnrakers!

The alternative to the garden rake! If you are using a mulching mower the chances are that sooner or later you will need to scarify!

Their purpose is to remove debris from the bottom of the sward, discourage horizontal growth and create a healthy environment for grass growth.

They range from inexpensive electric units suitable for small urban gardens to heavy-duty machines for large gardens and contract use.

EDGERS
Quicker and less back breaking than shears to keep the lawn edges looking good.

MTD 520G Petrol Edger. With a 3.5 hp engine it's a serious tool for heavy-duty edge creation and maintenance.

SPRAYERS

The ALLEN WALKOVER range of lawn sprayers (pedestrian and towed) take the hard work and guesswork out of the application of liquid fertilizers and weed killers. The accuracy of application ensures economical use of the material being applied. Allen can supply a range of Moss Killers, Fertilizers and Weed Killers in bulk quantities not normally available over the counter.
